REBLOG TO SAVE!!
yo. it’s cold out and batteries die on the reg. here’s a helpful reminder.
Remember to run your car for at least an hour after jumping it! If you turn it off the battery will die again!
#only put the cable on bare metal if the battery is missing a negative post#otherwise negative to negative and positive to positive and DON’T cross#engine could explode#also don’t let the ends of the cables touch or get wet especially if the other ends are connected to a battery (@adaamska)
^^^^ yessssss!!!!!! Negative goes to negative and if the plugs touch while one end is stil connected they will spark up. Be careful. Also if you put cables on the battery wrong it will spark up and cause danger. BE CAREFUL. PAY ATTENTION
ALSO something I didn’t know until I needed a jump myself, but I was lucky and a mechanic was the one who helped me out and gave me a bunch of advice:
- Keep goggles and gloves in your car if you can explicitly for this, cause it’s entirely possible for the clamps to spark and hurt your eyes or hands, and all batteries have acid and produce gas. A quick google search says that several thousand people every year hurt themselves doing a jump because they don’t have some sort of protection. My own battery sparked and it scared the shit out of me.
- Turn off all electrical devices in your car. That means your radio, your heater, any plugged in chargers, etc
- If it’s below freezing, you NEED to check to make sure the battery isn’t frozen. Look for cracks or damage, and remove the caps to see if there’s ice in the cells. Because charging a frozen battery could seriously cause it to explode.
- If you’re a short drive away from your destination, you gotta leave your car running for at least 20 minutes, preferably while on a freeway or some sort of road where you don’t have to stop
